The responsibility that was given to me - silver coin collection
Friday, August 27th, 2010My dad collected old silver dollar coins and stored it in a small box. He gave that box to me when I was a little older and told me that it is mine to use and keep. I told him that there is a store in town, were I can sell old silver dollar coins for a good price. He said that whatever I do with the coins is my responsibility.
I didn’t sell the coins and kept it in the box for years. When my dad suddenly became ill and in need of expensive medication, I didn’t think twice and sold the coins. Selling silver coins to that store was a good choice. They gave me the proper price for the coins and I used the money to buy the medicine. My dad told me that I shouldn’t have done that, the coin was meant for me to use for myself. I told him that he was more important than my personal whims and the money was put to good use. He recovered and we would occasionally go golfing together. I can’t think of a life without my dad. I hope he stays healthy for many more years to come.
