Selling Old Jewelry To Buy New Rare Pieces

I read some interesting material today while I was sitting in the waiting room at my doctors. There was a magazine about collectors and how much their collections were worth today. There were several commentaries in the magazine too that said that if your jewelry collection is not too valuable because of the pieces, then you should start selling jewelry for cash and getting out some of the money you put into it.

I always wondered why some people would sell old jewelry to pawn shops and jewelry stores but now, I understand. They can get the amount that the stone or the gold is worth, even if the piece is not rare or sought after. If you collect though, just because you enjoy it then selling jewelry pieces would probably never appeal to you, no matter how much you are offered.

The article went on to say that if you have a few things that are not worth too much then you might be able to sell old jewelry pieces that are not rare and purchase one big piece that is from the amount you make from the sale. I know a woman who has so much jewelry, she could start her own store but she just collect for fun and plans on passing down the collection to her granddaughters one day.
